Let’s Celebrate the Saints in Our Lives
Dear Friends,
Happy feast day to all of you, our saints. None of us are canonized Saints with a capital “S.” However, many of you are very saintly. You have heard the Word of God and are responding to the call of Jesus to follow Him. Therefore, you are saints with a small “s.” If you look back on your life, you will find significant people who made an impact on you. Those people are saints. As I look back on my life as a priest, I can easily say that I have been influenced by many saints, and my mother is first and foremost. Today, the church remembers our many, many Saints who are canonized, and these are official saints. However, let us also remember those other little saints who have made us what we are.
Our parish owes the City of El Cerrito a big thank-you. We noticed that we had standing water in the patio grassy area. Mario and Pedro Navea checked it out, thinking it was a broken pipe. Mary Asuncion called the City of El Cerrito and discovered that there was a storm drain built under our patio in 1916, long before the church was built. The city took responsibility for the collapsed storm drain and hired a contractor to put in new plastic pipes. This was a major job involving three tractors and various trucks. The job took about two weeks, and our patio is restored with new grass, sprinklers and lighting. Check it out the next time you are in the Conference Room. Also say a prayer of thanks for leadership of El Cerrito.
Peace,
Fr. John
